Two New Species - Baluk Willam Bulletin 30 Nov 2009

Two new plants were recorded in the reserve this November. Whilst not rare species generally, it shows there are still things to be discovered in this popular reserve.

Pale Vanilla Lily Arthropodium milleflorum

These grassy herbs are found in grassy woodland and similar habitat where there are not abundant shrubs. They don't like it too dry either.

Several flowering plants were seen in the north of the reserve beside the track west of the road. I'm not sure why previous surveys haven't recorded this species as it is quite easy to see and identify when flowering.

Swamp Mazus Mazus pumilio

These herbs with dark, glossy leaves can form dense mats and like it wet. They were found under Paperbark whilst surveying Sickle Greenhood orchids.
